Meet the Semifinalists

Dickinson, North Dakota

Each of the top 8 qualifiers from the Dickinson, North
Dakota contest were asked the following questions:
* How old where you when you sold your first item at auction?
* What is your favorite pair/brand of boots?
*  If you were a superhero what would your super power be?

Philip Gilstrap- Pendleton, SC

  • I was 18 when I first sold at a live sale and it
    was a horse and tack sale
  • I have a lucky pair of ostrich boots made by
    Justin.
  • I would be able to fly on my own and not have to
    get on a crop duster airplane like the one I flew to Dickinson

Brennin Jack- Regina, Saskatchewan

  • When I was 9 I sold a rabbit at a local sale.
  • I usually wear Ariats and have a black pair of
    boots that are my ‘lucky’ ones, Ariats are what I usually
  • I would have the ability to read minds.


Travis Rogers- Westlock, Alberta

  • I first sale was a livestock sale and I was 21
    or 22.
  • I am an Ariat fan.
  • I’d be the Smooth Talking Superhero.

Duane Rus- Rock Valley, IA

  • I was 15 and I sold some cows.
  • I mostly wear Justins.
  • I would like to be able to fly so I could see the country easier.

Shane Wolff- Golden Valley, ND

  • I was 19 and I think it was a farm sale.  I remember being really nervous!
  • I always wear Boulet boots.
  • I would be The Truth Seeker and have the ability
    to make people tell the truth.

Mitch Barthel- New York Mills, MN

  • I was 16 and I sold miscellaneous items at a
    farm sale.
  • I like Ariat and Justin boots.
  • I would want to fly.

Tye Casey- Plymouth, IN

  • I think I was 9 or 10 at a farm sale when I sold
    first.
  • My favorite pair of boots are lizard and are
    made by Ferrini.
  • I would want to be able to fly.

Andrew McDowell- Vandalia, IL

  • I was 17 and sold a cow at a livestock sale.
  • I usually wear Lucesse boots.
  • For a comic book reader that is a bold question,
    but I would have to say superstrength.
    It is hard to only pick one.

Glasgow, Kentucky
Each of the top 8 from the Glasgow, Kentucky quarterfinal were asked to asnwer the following questions:

* What is the coolest thing you have ever sold at auction?
* If you could go anywhere in the World, where would you go?

Darren Carter- Ninety Six, South Carolina

  • Ribeye Steak
  • I worked an auction with Joey Martin in Jacksonville, Florida where we sold off an old power plant.  It was sold off piece by piece and I think the coolest piece I sold were the power turbines.
  • I have never been to Texas and would love to visit Dallas/Fort Worth and check out the historic stockyards.  I hear great things about it but have never had the chance to go.

Will Epperly- Moneta, VA

  • I am a big fan of Mexican food.  My favorite is Steak Nachos with Queso
  • I sold a five legged baby calf for 10 bucks.  It was bizarre; it had a fifth leg growing out of its shoulder.
  • I would like to wrestle an alligator and adventure in the outback of Australia.

Tom Frey- Creston, IA

  • Ribeye Steak of course.
  • Last year after winning the international contest I sold a date with Harry the Horse in front of the Calgary grandstand in front of thousands of people.
  • I would go back to the mountains of Colorado.

Brain Little- Wann, OK

  • I cant think of a food that I don’t like. Steak is top of the list.
  • I sold a yak in Canada at a contest before.  It didn’t bring much money and I haven’t sold or seen one since.
  • I would go to Paris, I am kind of a romantic.

Blake McDaniel- Tuscumbia, AL

  • A good filet of beef!
  • Being up on the block is still pretty cool itself, but I did sell some lamas once; that was interesting.
  • Australia, I have always wanted to go there and check things out.

Brandon Neely- Southside, AL

  • NY strip medium
  • I sold a disassembled moonshine still at an estate sale in West Virginia.
  • I wold love to go to alaska and go hunting or fishing.

Paul Ramirez- Tucson, AZ

  • Steak, I am a sirloin man!
  • I sold a piece of Abraham Lincoln’s hair at a public auction in Phoenix, Arizona.
  • I would go back to Monterey, CA.  I love the climate there and enjoy the fisherman’s warf.

Jay Romine- Mt. Washington, KY

  • A big ribeye steak.
  • I sold a team of mules and an Amish buggy in Bartstown, Kentucky.  I thought that was pretty neat.
  • I would go back to Wyoming.  I love the mountains out there.
